POSITION OVERVIEW:
As Director of Construction at Autograph, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Edmonton’s urban landscape. Reporting to the President, you will be responsible for leading construction related matters to successfully deliver Autograph’s high-profile multi-family development pipeline. Your leadership will ensure development projects meet schedule and exceed proforma targets, maintain investor confidence and uphold Autograph’s commitment to innovation, quality, and community impact.
The ideal candidate is a real estate professional with experience in commercial and multi-family mixed-use development. A strategic mindset, strong financial acumen and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder relationships will be essential to the success of this position. The ability to drive efficient project execution and ensure projects remain cost-effective, timely, and uphold the highest quality are critically important to the success of this role.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES:
Project Execution & Performance Management:
- Working intimately with consultants, this role will oversee all phases of project construction from planning and approvals to execution and completion.
- Ensure all projects adhere to approved budgets, schedules, and quality standards, proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Monitor project financials, including cashflows, proformas, and contingency allocations to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.
- Be accountable for the successful performance of General Contractors.This includes setting and communicating high level goals and objectives, managing ongoing performance, and providing ongoing feedback.
- Prepare contracts, budgets, and schedules establishing critical milestones, according to project specifications and needs, review and report results and status of projects directly to the management team.
Stakeholder and Relationship Management:
- Collaborate and liaise with investors, municipal authorities, industry leaders, consultants, and trade partners to drive project success.
- Participates in issue resolution between management, consultants, construction managers and sub-contractors recommending solutions to any problems that might be encountered.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring project designs, construction methods, and operational strategies align with investor and community expectations.
- Act as a key representative for Autograph in Edmonton’s development and construction community, fostering strategic partnerships and industry engagement.
Operational Excellence and Innovation:
- Implement best practices and emerging trends in construction, ensuring Autograph remains at the forefront of development innovation
- Optimize construction methodologies, value engineering processes, and project efficiencies to enhance cost effectiveness and sustainability.
- Ensure seamless project transitions between development, construction, and asset management phases.
Strategic Leadership:
- Opportunity to take ownership of growing and developing Autograph’s construction team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation to drive successful project execution.
- Work closely with the development team to identify key relationships, alliances and opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with current and potential stakeholders.
- Ensure the construction team understands project needs and that these are incorporated into the design, construction, and operations of all buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in large-scale residential and mixed-use construction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead construction teams and manage projects exceeding $100 million annually.
- Proven success in delivering complex, high-profile developments
- Expertise in project financials, including but not limited to, proforma creation and management, profit & loss management, cashflows, and cost control.
- Deep understanding of Edmonton’s development landscape, regulatory environment, and key industry stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to navigate between big-picture strategy and technical project details with ease.
- Passion for collaboration, innovation, continuous learning and elevating industry standards.
